Great book and a must read for Christians. Language can be difficult, especially if you do not read a King James Bible because you think it's too difficult to understand. I use KJV, so it was almost on par with that in it's choice of language. Don't let that discourage you, read it anyway.

This is one of only 2 books that I can think of that has made me bring forth the water works. Especially chapter 12 on Humility. The Mortification of Sin is a cut straight to the heart. It forced me to consider the hypocritical nature of my preaching one thing and practicing another. It is not a self help book or even a how to book. The answer is to look to God. It is a complimentary book to Communion with God, and once you begin reading this book you will understand why. Owen hits why we sin, what happens when we sin, and our part in ridding our life of it.

When I first started reading this book, I had a profound sense of disappointment over the abridgment of this work by John Owen. It was as if it did not remain consistent with his writing style. But, maybe I was the one at fault for looking down over the modification and idolizing Owen's highly technical writing. For that, I do apologize.Having said all that, the message and content of the book is not diminished whatsoever. Richard Rushing did an excellent job maintaining the gist of the book. It still cuts to the sinful state of our hearts, convicts us of our sin and sinful attitudes, and exhorts us on what we must do as believers to mortify sin and grow in Christ.It is my conviction that Owen would have approved of the updated language so that his readers would grow and continue to be sanctified in Christ. After all, he was known for actually sitting in on a few sermons that John Bunyan preached and appreciating Bunyan's simple yet poignant sermon deliveries.Thus, I STRONGLY recommend this book to every Christian.

Deep, rich, and dripping with God-centered, Christ-exalting, Spirit-empowering and Bible-saturated content. Took me over 3 years to complete these few pages as God would graciously help me meditate on a few pages at a time. So precious. Can’t wait to read it again. “Thank You, Lord, for this book. May those who love Your glory learn how to mortify their sin so that they may be satisfied in You completely and thus glorify You supremely.”

For those with low bone density who want to safely practice yoga, this book is a must have! Margaret is right... most yoga teachers, well intentioned as they are, are not well versed in the adaptations needed to keep a yoga practice safe for those with low bone density. The early chapters of the book clearly explain all about bone density, so the following chapters on yoga poses make more sense. I have found her modifications easy to implement into my existing yoga practice. Thank you Margaret!

Wow, so I've been doing some things all wrong over the years, and this book tells me why I knew that things just weren't right for me. My cervical spine is now bone on bone, and I quit yoga practice because it was causing me pain. This book helps me readjust my exercises

Wise advice for those of us who love yoga and have fragile bones. Simple explanations with photos of what to do and what to avoid. If only yoga teachers were trained in these techniques. I’ve been subscribing to her newsletter as well and own her other books.Sara Meeks is another excellent source for exercise modifications for people with osteoporosis or osteopenia.

I have Margaret’s other bone health books, too. This one continues her detailed information and excellent guidance. I really appreciate the knowledge imparted in this book, from information about bones to which yoga poses are safe and unsafe. This book is very useful since I want to stay active even with a diagnosis of osteoporosis.

The book does have some good points on basic osteoporosis information but was not as detailed with the actual yoga poses as I expected. There were not pictures for all poses discussed and unless you are very familiar with yoga and the names of the poses, extra research will be required and that is even noted in the book, that you may need to reference other resources to determine what is being discussed. Also, pages of the book were loose and falling out at the first opening of it.

I have Margaret Martins other excellent book Exercise for Better Bones. This book Yoga for Better Bones is excellent also. She shows us in words and pictures how not to hurt our bones while doing yoga. I personally have fractures and this book helps me to do yoga and not worry about hurting myself. I appreciate all of Margaret’s work.

This book will ease the fear of yoga related injuries by providing a basic understanding of spine and hip anatomy. It is a great guide to yoga practice while avoiding stress and pressure to fragile areas. Any yogi with low bone density will find it an important resource.

The very first point of guidance which my yoga teacher offered was to be safe in our practice. Ms. Martin provides compelling insights along with easy to follow modifications for common asanas for anyone practicing yoga, particularly those of us who are on the older side. Let me start off by saying this is a enjoyable book with fantastic color photographs of the mosaics and paintings inside of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. The artistic work is nicely analyzed with the authors describing the various differences in the quality of some of the work, along with translations of the numerous inscriptions. However, I believe there are several areas where the book's main premise might be incorrect. First and foremost is calling the artistic work "crusader". It is obvious that the mosaics and at least two of the paintings were designed and constructed by Byzantine artists in the pay the the Byzantine Emperor Manuel I Komnenos. We even have the names of the of Byzantine artists that did the work. In addition, the mosaic inscriptions describe that the work was done under the patronage of Manuel. Finally, the mosaics are clearly Byzantine in style and composition. Any person who has visited the Church of the Chora in Istanbul, and/or Daphne in Greece will see the obvious clear relationship between the work in Bethlehem and mosaics from the Middle and Late Byzantine periods. Both were infamous and led colourful short lives.Many are familiar with the exploits of Billy the Kid due to the numerous Hollywood movies, but Ned Kelly of Australia may be less well known.Utley includes interesting maps and period photos to enhance his research and tales of both men.During the Beechworth hearing, Ned Kelly’s lawyer spoke with his client and Ned said,“All I want is a full and fair trial, and a chance to make my side heard. Until now, the police have had all the say, and have it their own way. If I get a full and fair trial, I don’t care how it goes; but I know this—the public will see that I was hunted and hounded on from step to step; they will see that I am not the monster I have been made out. This was an interesting read but not one that totally grabbed me. I'm unsure why Billy the Kid has the name he has whereas with Ned Kelly it stands out that he was a real rebel and regardless of your point of view, courageous to the end. This book is one to take you on a journey to other readings or research. It is concisely written; other authors would take you deeper into each man's life. For me Kelly was the more interesting and his suit of armour to protect him against the bullets of the police made him unique in bandit history.

Fascinating, well-written tales about the Wild West days of the southwest and outback, with maps and pictures too. Found myself strangely sympathetic with the two outlaw heroes and turned off by the unethical, wheeler-dealer authorities who turned them into scapegoats. A worthwhile book for anyone interested in how the the west was settled, particularly in Arizona and New Mexico, and how defiant men of action have influenced the national identities of the U.S. and Australia. Great gift for cowboy-culture enthusiasts and history buffs.
