About the Author

Cindy specializes in providing counseling services for children, adolescents and adults in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In addition to serving families in private practice, Cindy is the co-founder and Executive Director of HALO Project (www.haloprojectokc.org). HALO (Healing, Attachment, Loving Outreach) Project is administered through Angels Foster Family Network, OKC and is a 10-week intensive intervention program for children in foster care and/or children who have been adopted that are experiencing attachment or behavioral difficulties. HALO collaborates with occupational therapists, mental health clinicians, psychologists, speech pathologists and medical professionals to meet the diverse needs of this population. In an effort to better serve families struggling with attachment issues, Cindy completed the TCU Institute of Child Development’s professional training program of the Trust-Based Relational Intervention Model (TBRI ®) developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross. Since her completion of the TBRI ® training, Cindy has conducted numerous trainings to clinicians as well as foster parent groups. Cindy is in the process of completing 8 children books based upon the valuable lessons on TBRI. Cindy graduated with honors from Arizona State University with her Master’s in Social Work in 1999. This book has no real point and instead of saying she is missing her parent throughout it says she misses her boss. That doesn't relate for kids. Then it says she found a new mom and everything was great. This is so not reality. I am returning.

I am so, so thankful an adoption friend recommended this book to us! Our daughter absolutely loves it - she has been running around since we got it referring to herself as "Baby Owl" and me as "Mommy Owl". She really identified with being the boss, as she struggles with control issues immensely. This is a sweet book that talks about those issues very gently - and I LOVE the pages at the beginning for parents that refer to Karyn Purvis and TBRI. Worth every penny and I cannot wait for the rest of Cindy's books to come out!

Cute and informative book. Highly recommend the series.

One of my favorite things is that the helpful hints are first and foremost! No searching! Then Cindy uses kid friendly language to help kids from hard places with Dr Purvis' core idea of felt safety by showing how adults can help keep you safe. I have recommended this book to other therapist as well as parents.

TBRI is incredible. Every parent should learn it.

A really good read that is both informative and interesting. I am interested in aviation but not a qualified pilot but still was engrossed in the stories based on the sharing of pilots experiences from a wide range of countries and situations. Well written with a good mix of narrative and technical information without getting bogged down into too much technical detail (which can happen in aviation writing). Definitely recommended to those interested in learning about aviation and flying and I'd say a potential life saver for pilots of all levels of experience. Looking forward to the partner book on Commercial Aviation.

Really enjoyed reading this book. It gave me valuable insights in to the thinking pilots must adopt in order to stay alive. A real eye opener! I would recommend this to anyone, an engrossing read.

Doris Kearns Goodwin is a superb writer, no ifs or buts about it. She could write a washing machine manual and I’d probably still gobble it up. She has a gift of conjuring up the past so vividly, so real, so believable, that you feel as if you’re right there with her as it’s happening. You can feel the excitement as she’s waiting for her father to come home from work so she can read him the baseball stats she painstakingly put together from that day’s game on the radio, you can hear the cheers in the ballpark as she gets to go to her very first Brooklyn Dodgers game, you are holding your breath with her when it comes down to the final strike and the final out in the last game of the season, you simply become that little girl with all her dreams and hopes and sometimes disappointments of growing up in 1950s America.I don’t think you have to be a baseball fan to love this book. It’s simply a good memoir all around. But if you love baseball, especially in the glory days of Jackie Robinson (who is Goodwin’s hero) you’re in for a particular treat. I don’t know what it is about that era, but it always has an especially strong pull on me. There were parallels to John Grisham’s A Painted House – an atypical Grisham novel set in 1950s Arkansas that in my opinion is among Grisham’s best – in that it also has the fate of a beloved baseball team as its central thread, together with the outsize role played by radio broadcasts of the games. We might have many more modern conveniences today, we might be better off in so many ways, but being transported back into this golden era of baseball by the magic of Goodwin’s storytelling will leave you with an almost painful yearning for a simpler, more wholesome world.

Saw the author in the Ken Burns series on Baseball. Enjoyed her comments and thought her to be someone interesting to chat with. This book is a personal account of a period of her life related to her love of baseball. I can identify with so much of it. I, too, was a Brooklyn Dodger fan who was devastated by their move to Los Angeles. I, too, lost interest in baseball for a time. She eventually joined the Red Sox ranks while I eventually became a Mets fan. We both were raised Catholic. Ms. Goodwin was a big fan of Jackie Robinson. Her account of her early years as a Dodgers fan can easily be identified with by Dodger fans of the era. Her relationship with her father that developed from and was solidified by their mutual love of the game and the team provides poignant moments. Her descriptions of her Rockville Center neighborhood with its mix of ethnicities and team loyalties should bring back memories to those of us who lived through those times. There is pathos and there is joy in some of her personal accounts of family tragedy and family blessings. This is more than merely a baseball book, it is a peek inside her life and a prompting for our own memories. More than ever she is someone I'd love to have a chat with.

This was such a good story - the baseball part of the story was so interesting that I am now a baseball fan. I've NEVER watched baseball, but Goodwin is such a skilled writer that I felt the excitement of her beloved Brooklyn Dodgers' progress to win the championship. How her love for the Dodgers is woven into the story of her early family life was so moving that it made me wish that era of baseball was still part of our lives in the way in was for her, her family, and her neighborhood. This was a touching memoir - I prayed for her mother's health, wept during their sorrow, and find myself identifying with her love and respect for her father. My father was also a self-made man, coming from very disadvantaged beginnings but he was such a bright, loving, hardworking man who never let his difficult early life affect his optimism and belief in oneself. I listened to her story first in audio format and loved it so much I bought the book for my kindle to read again. Wonderful and beautifully written, with such love in her memories - it was one of the best memoirs I've ever read.

My wife and I grew up in the same time period and could relate to her stories. She writes in such a way that you can see her in your mind doing the things she was doing. If you love baseball read the book that takes you back to a simpler time. Even if you are not a baseball fan you will enjoy hearing about the time of safe neighborhoods, corner stores, the first TVs and listening to games on the radio.If you are a Cubs fan, a Red Sox fan or a Philadelphia fan or any of the other teams that waited so long for a World Series win you will relate..

His Imperial Majesty does not get the credit he deserves for transforming Africa. Africa today is not even close to where the King had envisioned due to a terrible failure in leadership and the whole continent now being run by criminals. The book brings out so many facts. The ending is amazing. It ends with his speech to the League of Nations. His autobiography needs to be studied in university and especially concerning developing economies and how to just implement change on so many levels. Also reading what happened to Ethiopia during World War II and seeing the news headlines of today in the Middle East with Isis and the terrorists. It's exactly the same thing with the fascists and Italy. History is definitely repeating itself. This is a must-read!!!!!

Everything he did was for the benefit of the people of Ethiopia and those nations that joined the League of Nations. His work to unify science and theology was new and should become a 'development' model for all nations today.

The Book Itself opens a world of questions and realities that even the most educated are widely unaware of. We never hear the other side, a side which took great pains to avoid military conflict, with its history well documented and verifiable. My only issue is with the way in which this autobiography, by a man descended from the line of Solomon and who traces its Christian heritage to more than a thousand years ago, is the fact its published under 'Black Studies'. This book has nothing to do with 'Black Studies' nor do I understand what a black study is. Though the translations may be rough a remnant of truth still prevails, just as the line of David and the Lion of Judah lives on.This book is an essential read in the understanding of International History and Politic.
