I have used this book for years and bought a copy for my son-in-law who just bought a new house . This is a superb book for plants of all types for the Southeast. I am sorry there is no newer edition, but if you can find this book it is well worth it.
I borrowed this book from my Landscape Design prof and it is such a fabulous resource, I bought it for myself! Plants are easy to find and categorized by size and evergreen/deciduous. I have yet to have trouble finding a plant and all pics are in color. Less detailed than Dirr's Woody Landscape Plants of the Southeast, but comparable for like 30x cheaper. Highly recommend

This book was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I'm a landscape designer in the Midwest who wanted to learn the plants and trees of the southeast because I hope to move there in the next few years. Written well, this reminds me of the text books we used in landscaping school to learn our shrubs and trees. Excellent reference manual with descriptions and pictures for each specimen.

I bought my first copy of this book about 15 years ago. I have enjoyed reading through it like a book (!)...and mostly using it as a resource to identify shrubs (in yard of our new house) and planning our future garden beds and foundation plantings. The book is divided into sections so helpful to guide you correctly to what you need. I love it. When it came time to buy a birthday gift for one of my sons, I thought of this book. Now, he and his wife have a copy and can use it as I have. What more can a mother be for??
